HO CHI MINH CITY ARRIVAL

Depart the hotel for a full day Ho Chi Minh City tour. Head to Cholon, the Chinatown district, to discover the area’s markets,
shops, and the Cantonese Thien Hau Pagoda - dedicated to the goddess of the Sea. Visit Vietnam's first traditional medicine
museum, the FITO Museum, with an amazing collection of 3,000 items relevant to the development of traditional Vietnamese
medicine. Implements used to prepare indigenous herbs, and objects commonly found in traditional pharmacies can be seen in
the galleries as well as ancient books and documents on traditional Vietnamese medicine.

Head back to the city centre to visit Ben Thanh Market where an incredible display of fresh produce is offered. Simply stroll through the market exploring the variety of goods for sale.

This afternoon visit the War Remnants Museum, History Museum (closed Mondays) or the former Presidential Palace, Stroll to the major sights of colonial Ho Chi Minh City: the Old Saigon Post Office, Dong Khoi Street (formerly Rue Catinat), Continental Hotel, Opera House and City Hall (a vehicle will be waiting at all times). HO CHI MINH CITY – MEKONG DELTA – HO CHI MINH CITY

The colorful floating market, vast emerald rice fields and lush back waterways are the things that make Cai Be such a desired destination. This morning, leave b ustling Ho Chi Minh for the 2 hour drive to the delta town of Cai Be.

On arrival board a boat for a cruise of Cai Be floating market. Traders work the river and some have been living on these waters for generations. Produce at the market is hung on a pole in front of boats to attract customers and make it easier for people to see from afar what is on offer.

After visiting the market continue to a cottage factory where ‘pop-rice’, rice paper and coconut candies are made. Return to the boat for the cruise to Dong Hoa Hiep Island, admiring the scenery and the daily life of the local villagers along the way. Lunch is local Mekong style serving specialties of the area. Return to Ho Chi Minh City in the late afternoon.

HO CHI MINH CITY – DANANG - HOI AN (B)

After breakfast transfer to Tan Son Nhat Airport for the short flight to the central port city of Danang. On arrival in Danang transfer to Hoi An, stopping en route to visit the interesting Cham Museum (time permitting). Hoi An is a major Asian trading port in the 17th and 18th centuries whose architecture and relaxed lifestyle has changed little over the years. Take a walking tour of the ancient town centre to visit the former merchants’ homes, the 400 year-old Japanese Covered Bridge and the colourful market. Rest of the day at leisure.

HOI AN – DANANG - HANOI (B)

Transfer to Danang airport for the short flight to Hanoi. On arrival, transfer to hotel. This afternoon visit the Temple of
Literature. In 1076, Vietnam's first university Quoc Tu Giam was established within a temple to educate Vietnam's royalty,
mandarins and members of the elite. The university functioned for an incredible 700 years and its gardens and well-preserved
architecture offer a fascinating glimpse into Vietnam’s past.

Later on, a short cycle through the village will bring you to Phnom Bok hill, where a short trek will lead you to the top, from
where you can enjoy a magnificent view of the plains below. Walk down towards the pretty temple of Banteay Samre, where you will enjoy a relaxing lunch break.

After the visit it’s a quick transfer to the airport for the short flight to the central port city of Danang. On arrival in Danang transfer 40-minutes to Hoi An, a major Asian trading port in the 17th and 18th centuries whose architecture and relaxed lifestyle has changed little over the years.

Next, visit The One Pillar Pagoda, founded by King Ly Thai To in 1049. This structure is one of Vietnam’s most iconic temples. Close by is the mausoleum of the historic father figure of modern Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh, and the former presidents house on stilts where he lived from 1958 to 1969. His former home illustrates the modesty of this Vietnamese revolutionary. (viewed from outside; closed Mon and Fri and from Oct-Nov)

Wander the streets of Hanoi’s Old Quarter, also known as the ‘36 streets’. Take a walking tour through charming Hang Be Market and around Hoan Kiem Lake. This bustling area of narrow streets and alleys is home to literally thousands of small businesses and shopkeepers. It's a great place to explore with plenty of photo opportunities all around.

Finish the day with a Water Puppet show. This is a uniquely north Vietnamese art form depicting scenes from rural life and episodes of national history.

Overnight at your choice of hotel in Hanoi.

HANOI – HALONG BAY (B, L, D)

After breakfast leave Hanoi for an overnight boat trip on Halong Bay. Journey through the rich farmlands of the Red River Delta
and observe everyday life of Vietnamese villagers as they work the rice fields, take pigs to the market on bicycles and plough
the fields with their water buffaloes. Arrive in Halong City late morning and board a traditional wooden junk or a classic colonial
era replica steamship, The Emeraude, for the overnight journey into the Bay. Lunch will be served en-route. Cruise by rock
formations with such names as Sail, Dog and Dinh Huong (incense pot). Towards the end of the day set anchor for the night.
As the sun sets over the bay dinner is served on board with fresh seafood, salads, and fruits.

Overnight on board the Cruise in Halong Bay.

HHALONG BAY – HANOI (B)

On return to Halong City enjoy a wholesome brunch as the boat wends its way through strangely shaped limestone rock formations. Disembark and transfer to Hanoi. As an optional extra, visit one of the oldest pagodas in Vietnam ‘But Thap’ on the way back to Hanoi. Transfer to Noi Bai Airport for onward flight*.

(*An extra night may be needed in Hanoi depending on onward flight time.)

    Insurance

There are hundreds of circumstances that could cause you to cancel your trip, return home early or force you to seek emergency medical treatment while traveling.

To demonstrate the importance of purchasing travel insurance, and emergency travel services, here are 10 common examples of what could go wrong.

    • Your first visit to Europe, and your passport and wallet are stolen. Where do you turn for emergency cash, and how will you get your passport replaced?
    • You're involved in an accident and adequate medical treatment is not available. Who will help arrange and pay for a medical evacuation?
    • If your sister-in-law becomes seriously ill and you must cancel your trip, what happens to your non-refundable deposits or pre-payments?
    • You arrive in Jamaica and your luggage doesn't. If it's lost, who will help you find it? If it's delayed, who will pay for your necessities? If it's stolen, who will pay to replace it?
    • You're walking down a street in Rio and twist your ankle. Who can help you find an English-speaking physician?
