We spend a part of the afternoon at Mto wa Mbu to learn about the diverse cultural heritage of Tanzania. Mto wa Mbu has an estimated population of just around 28000 and is home to nearly 120 different tribes.

day 02
Karatu to Serengeti National Park Day2

Karatu to Serengeti National Park

No trip to this part of the world would be complete without visiting Olduvai Gorge, site of the Laetoli hominid footprints, Oldupai Museum and the numerous fossilized hominid, animal and plant specimens. The names of Louis and Mary Leakey are closely associated with Olduvai since they are the first to excavate this area over 70 years ago. 4-different types of hominid have been discovered here, with more than 60 remains adding to the archaeological record. To learn more about the history of hominids and other mammals, a self-guided tour of the museum accompanied by a short lecture is provided. A short visit to a nearby Masai Village rounds off the morning tour before we finally enter the Serengeti National Park. One look at the park and we understand why the Masai people called it the Siringitu - "the place where the land moves on forever."

Overnight at Seronera Wildlife Lodge (Breakfast, Lunch & dinner)

day 03
Serengeti National Park Day3

Serengeti National Park

The Serengeti National Park is so vast that you see a variety of very diverse habitats within the park – plains, kopjes, rivers and forests. Game drives though awe-inspiring are only one aspect of the park, the breathtaking landscapes, the rise and setting of the sun offers some fantastic photo opportunities. The park is best known for the annual migration of over one and a half million White-bearded Wildebeests, three hundred thousand Thomson's Gazelles and over two hundred thousand Zebras. This Great Migration has been listed as one of the top ten natural travel wonders of the world.

day 04

Serengeti National Park to Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Today we visit the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The first glimpse of the Ngorongoro Crater is an experience in itself. Although commonly referred to as a crater, it is actually a caldera, which is a cauldron-like volcanic feature usually formed by the collapse of land following a volcanic eruption. The Ngorongoro Caldera is the largest unbroken, un-flooded caldera in the world. Ngorongoro offers some unique sights and you see herds of wild animals grazing around on the crater-floor. .

Overnight at Ngorongoro Wildlife Lodge (Breakfast, Lunch & dinner)

day 05

There are hundreds of circumstances that could cause you to cancel your trip, return home early or force you to seek emergency medical treatment while traveling.

To demonstrate the importance of purchasing travel insurance, and emergency travel services, here are 10 common examples of what could go wrong.

  • Your first visit to Europe, and your passport and wallet are stolen. Where do you turn for emergency cash, and how will you get your passport replaced?
  • You're involved in an accident and adequate medical treatment is not available. Who will help arrange and pay for a medical evacuation?
  • If your sister-in-law becomes seriously ill and you must cancel your trip, what happens to your non-refundable deposits or pre-payments?
  • You arrive in Jamaica and your luggage doesn't. If it's lost, who will help you find it? If it's delayed, who will pay for your necessities? If it's stolen, who will pay to replace it?
  • You're walking down a street in Rio and twist your ankle. Who can help you find an English-speaking physician?
